Can’t get to our Golf Classic in Sussex, NB on Friday, September 6?  You can golf from wherever you are and still be a part of the Kingswood Golf Classic.

 Here’s How:
  1. Get a team together.
  2. Register your Team here.
  3. Suggested donation is $250 per person.  You can make a donation, ask your friends to support you with an online gift, or send their gift with contact information for receipting purposes using the Pledge Form.
    Donation receipts will be issued for all gifts of $10 or more.
  4. Golf anytime from August 1 – September 5, 2024.  Tournament Rules apply to all golfers – (tournament rules below).
  5. Send your team score to Debbie Benson by September 5 – bensond@kingswood.edu or call 506.432.4411.
  6. Join the Kingswood Classic Awards Banquet on September 6, 2024  at 6:30 PM Atlantic Time.  You will receive a link to join the banquet by Zoom.
  7. You will be eligible for prizes for Best Team Score and Most Funds Raised.
  8. You will also receive a Kingswood Golf Shirt in the mail.
  9. Even though you can’t be physically present, you can enjoy a day on the links while investing in a Kingswood University student.  Every dollar raised goes to scholarships.

Kingswood Golf Classic Awards Banquet held at Kingswood University, Wesley Hall (lower level of Saunders Irving Chapel). Great food, prizes, and a university update from President Steve Lennox.

Tournament Rules
  • Each team member tees off on every hole. The best of the tee shots is selected and all players play their second shots from that spot. Each team member may place their ball within one club-length of the selected shot, no nearer to the hole.  The best of the second shots is determined, then all play their third shots from that spot, and so on until the ball is holed.
  • A minimum of 1 drive must be used from each team member.
  • If the selected shot is in a hazard, the ball may be placed within one club-length, but must remain in the hazard and placed no nearer to the hole.
  • If the selected shot is on the fringe of the green, the ball may be placed within one club-length, but cannot be placed onto the putting surface.
  • When putting, the ball must be placed within one putter head length of the selected shot, no nearer to the hole.
  • Maximum 2 putt rule!  If all players miss the first putt, then the second putt is a gimme; proceed to the next hole.
  • Most important rule of the day – HAVE FUN!

Kingswood Classic 2024 Results

It was a spectacular fall day with 110 golfers on the Sussex Golf Course on Friday, September 6 for the 28th Kingswood Golf Classic.  They play with the purpose of raising funds for financial aid and scholarships for students at Kingswood University, and raised a record-breaking $76,500!  

Individual Achievement:

Longest Drive on Hole # 1 – Levi Younker

Closest to Pin on Hole # 6 – Pat Fernie

Hole in One on Putting Green – Hole in One:  James Smith, David Ross, Nathan Bernard, Joe Makary 

Team Achievement:

The Top Church Trophy, given for the number of teams in the tournament and funds raised, goes to Saint John First Wesleyan with five teams and over $7,800 raised for the Golf Classic.  

The top three fundraising teams earn Naming rights to Scholarships to be awarded to Kingswood University students in the fall semester.  

  1. The top Scholarship valued at $3,000 is named by Tony Benson’s team in memory of Tony’s “old team” – the Hugh, Don, and Dave Memorial Scholarship. This year’s team included Margaret Crothers, Linda McGuigan, Claudette Smith and Marianne Williams, raising a total of over $10,000.    
  2. The $2,000 Golf Scholarship is named by the Browns Flat Putters with Russell Hall, Walter Long, Ralph Manzer, and David Ross raising a total of almost $6,000.  This year’s scholarship is named in memory of John McLaughlin, a Beulah neighbour who passed away earlier this year. 
  3. The $1,000 Scholarship is named by Team Beckwith from Fredericton.  Peter Beckwith has golfed in 26 of our Golf Classics and this year he brought Ken Hooper for his 20th Classic, John Feeney, and Bob Wood.   They have chosen to name their scholarship the Greg Mann Honourary Scholarship in honour of Greg’s outstanding food service at Kingswood University for over 30 years.  

Top Individual Fundraiser was Nathan Perry who raised over $3,000, with John Crozier and Walter Long coming in second and third place in individual fundraising efforts.  Congratulations to our top fundraisers! 

Best Team Scores: 

Two teams tied for best score this year with a score of 60  

Team Nelson:  Dave Graham, Jay Guptill, Mark Moore, and Doug Nelson 

Young Guns:  Tim Valentine, Ken Valentine, Keagan Miller, and Andreas Pitrie.  

Two teams tied for third place with a score of 62: 

Team Guptill:  Rod, AJ, Levi and David Guptill 

Back Nine Bandits:  Justin Allen, Brad Chugg, Cecil Van Buskirk, and Levi Younker.  

This year for the fifth year in a row, we set a record for fundraising with over $76,500 raised through corporate sponsorships and golfers raising support.

It was a spectacular fall day as 98 golfers took to the course on Friday, September 8, for the 27th Kingswood Golf Classic.  They played with the purpose of raising funds for financial aid and scholarships for students at Kingswood University, and raised a record-breaking $73,000!

The Top Church Trophy given for number of teams in the tournament and funds raised goes to Saint John First Wesleyan who brought six teams and raised over $9,500 for the Golf Classic.

Top Three Fundraising Teams

The top three fundraising teams earn naming rights to Scholarships to be awarded to Kingswood University students in the fall semester.

The top Golf Scholarship, valued at $3,000, is named by Tony Benson’s team in memory of Tony’s “old team” – the Hugh, Don, and Dave Memorial Scholarship. This year’s team included Dave McCrea, Linda McGuigan, Natasha Moffett, and Marianne Williams, and raised a total of $8,790.

The $2,000 Golf Scholarship is named by the Browns Flat Putters with Gary Churchill, Russell Hall, Walter Long, and Ralph Manzer, raising a total of $7,590.  This year’s scholarship is named in memory of Russell’s aunt, Ruby Booth, who passed away this year.

The $1,000 Golf Scholarship is named by the Bengals from Saint John First Wesleyan.  This team, comprised of John Crozier, Jim Irvine, Nathan Perry, and Quinton Saunders, raised over $6,604.  This scholarship will be named the Saint John First Wesleyan Scholarship.

3rd Place Fundraiser: Linda McGuigan raised a total of $2,340

2nd Place Fundraiser: Walter Long raised a total of $3,530

Top Individual Fundraiser: Nathan Perry raised over $3,555

Best Team Scores

Coming in third place for best score, with a score of 62, was Kings Church St. Stephen Team 2.  Pete Stubbs, Don McGee, Shayne & Amy Brennan made up the team.

Two teams tied for best score this year with a score of 58:  

Team Balding:  Scott Brooks and Matt, Isaiah and Oren Veysey

Team Nelson:  Dave Graham, Jay Guptill, Mark Moore, and Doug Nelson

For the first time, we had a team consisting of four generations!!  Team Guptill with Claude, Rod, AJ, and Levi enjoyed a great day and brought in a score of 63 – well done, team Guptill!

For the first time, over $73,000 was raised through corporate sponsorships and golfers raising support.  Thank you to all who participated, making the Golf Classic a success!

It was a spectacular fall day as 76 golfers took to the course on Friday, September 9 for the 26th Kingswood Golf Classic.  They play with the purpose of raising funds for financial aid and scholarships for students at Kingswood University, and raised a record-breaking $65,000!

The top Scholarship valued at $3,000 is named by Saint John First Wesleyan Team 2.  This team, comprised of John Crozier, Jim Irvine, Nathan Perry, and Quinton Saunders, raised over $6,800.  This year’s top scholarship will be named in memory of Margo “GoGo” Perry, who died suddenly last year.  Nathan fondly remembers his grandmother.

The $2,000 Scholarship is named by is Tony Benson’s team in memory of Tony’s “old team” – the Hugh, Don, and Dave Memorial Scholarship. This year’s team, Margaret Crothers, Natasha Hazen, Dave McCrea and Linda McGuigan, raised a total of $6,075.

The $1,000 Golf Scholarship is named by the Browns Flat Putters comprised of Russell Hall, Terry Hurd, Walter Long, and Gary Churchill, raising a total of $4,449.  This year’s scholarship is named in memory of Rev. Dr. Ken Gorveatte who served in ministry both at Kingswood and in local church ministry.

What a great day to celebrate the 25th Kingswood Golf Classic on Friday, September 10. We had 75 golfers play with the purpose of raising funds for financial aid and scholarships for students at Kingswood University, and raised a record-breaking $60,000!

The top Scholarship valued at $3,000 is named by Tony Benson’s Sussex team in memory of Tony’s “old team” – the Dave, Don, and Hugh Memorial Scholarship. This year’s team, Margaret Crothers, Natasha Hazen, Dave McCrea and Linda McGuigan, raised a total of $5,780.

 

The $2,000 Scholarship is named by the Browns Flat Putters comprised of Russell Hall, Terry Hurd, Walter Long, and Brian MacDonald, raising a total of $5,015. This year’s scholarship is named in memory of Mrs. Pat Briggs who passed away this year after a battle with cancer.  Wayne & Pat Briggs pastored Browns Flat Fellowship for several years.

The Fredericton team made up of Peter Beckwith, Ken Hooper, Ron McArthur and Bob Wood achieved the honour of naming the $1,000 scholarship for their third place achievement in fundraising with a total of $2,230 raised. This scholarship is named the Greg & Lynn Honourary Scholarship in honour of Greg Mann and Lynn Paris and their service to food service at Kingswood for over thirty years.

The Top Church Trophy given for number teams in the tournament and funds raised goes to Coastal Church. With Pastor Jason Parker, they fielded four teams and raised nearly $9,000 for the Golf Classic.

Top Three Fundraising Teams

The top three fundraising teams earn Naming rights to Scholarships to be awarded to Kingswood University students in the fall semester.

  1. The Brown’s Flat Putters achieved the honour of naming the $1,000 scholarship for their third-place achievement in fundraising with a total of $3,685 raised. The team consisting of Russell Hall, Terry Hurd, Len Landry, and Ken McGeorge have named the Bruce & Roxie Cheney Honourary Scholarship in honour of Bruce & Roxie’s twelve years of distinguished service as Caretakers at Beulah Camp & Conference Centre.

  2. The $2,000 Scholarship is named by Team Sussex comprised of Margaret Crothers, Dave McCrea, Linda McGuigan, and Steve Moffett. This team raised a total of $4,615.  The Don Moffett & Hugh Hogg Memorial Golf Scholarship is named in memory of previous long-time members of this team.
  3. The top Scholarship for 2020 is named the Coastal & Oceanview Christian Academy Scholarship. This scholarship, valued at $3,000 is named by Fairway to Heaven team comprised of Jonathan Hoogerwerf, Adam Kenney, Brett Laidlaw, Jason Parker, and Andrew Ross. This team raised a total of $5,340.

Top Three Fundraising Teams

The top three fundraising teams earn Naming rights to Scholarships to be awarded to Kingswood University students in the fall semester. 

  1. The top Scholarship valued at $3,000 is named by Team Sussex comprised of Tony Benson, Margaret Crothers, Linda McGuigan, and Cully Robinson.  This team raised a total of $4,285.  The Donald R. Moffett Memorial Golf Scholarship is named in memory of previous long-time member of the team Don Moffett.
  2. The Brown’s Flat Putters have the honour of naming a scholarship valued at $2,000 for achieving 2nd place in fundraising with $3,913 raised.  Members of this team are Russell Hall, Terry Hurd, Walter Long, and Ken McGeorge.  They have named this scholarship in memory of Rev. Jack MacKenzie, a godly servant who faithfully served in ministry until his death in May of 2019.
  3. The Grand Manan team of Michael Park, Casey Benson, and Leon Quick won 3rd place in fundraising, and have chosen to name their scholarship the Chappy Cook Honourary Golf Scholarship valued at $1,000.  Funds Raised:  $2,075.

  2. The Brown’s Flat Community Scholarship valued at $2,000 is named by the Browns Flat team of Anne MacNeill, Heather Gray, and Mike & Jennifer Veres, raising a total of $3,465.
  3. The second team from Browns Flat will name the third scholarship p valued at $1,000. Members of this team are Russell Hall, Terry Hurd, Walter Long, and Ken McGeorge. Funds Raised:  $3,000.
